12 Of My Favorite True Crime YouTube Channels

Last Updated on Sun Jun 20, 2021 by JR Rioux

Truth can often be stranger than fiction. Human beings can do some very bizarre things, and we may not be able to think or grasp where the ideas for these actions come from. One of the ways I learn about abnormal human behavior is by watching true crime, and I’ve found some very good channels that focus on these things on YouTube.

Now, I will be the first to admit that you have to take much of what you see on places like YouTube with a pinch of salt. People are biased and flawed, don’t always focus on all available information when preparing their stories. With that said, these are ones that I consider very well done, well-researched, nicely presented, with interesting content. Most focus largely on representing the victims, but few are slim on facts about the investigation – depending on how much law enforcement has released.

Another benefit of watching these is learning more about trauma. Many cases that are solved do discuss the aftereffects of having been through a horrific trauma. Most of these cases, however, do not have happy endings. A majority involve murder or missing persons and usually these cases are unsolved. The goal is to spread information in hopes of helping these cases get solved. Having said all that, let’s get to the list.

NOTE: I will not be including any channel that is linked to an official news organization in this list. These are all independent presenters who collect the information themselves or with the assistance of a small team, sometimes even viewers and fans, as well as amateur criminologists.

They Got Away With Murder

Murder is the greatest taboo and all societies reserve their strictest penalties for those who commit the ultimate crime – that of killing another person. But there are a few people who in spite of this, quite literally, get away with murder. This channel is about such people. Many of these cases are well known – have become part of the canon of classic true crime literature – and others less so but are nevertheless intriguing unsolved murders that have baffled Scotland Yard.

The opinions expressed in these essays are mine alone – the result of careful research using many sources including original police papers, transcripts of court proceedings, Inquests etc; also contemporary press reports and personal contact with descendants of those who were witness to the events.
