About The Author
J.R. Rioux is a pen name for a fiction writer who is a deeply private person. She is currently preparing to self-publish and sell through various online sources. Her drafts are currently being hosted on Wattpad and Inkitt prior to publication.
J.R. is originally from Missouri and the only surviving child of her long divorced parents, only one of which (mother) is still living. She has, in addition, other siblings and parents gained through marriage, along with a gaggle of nieces and nephews. Growing up, she was raised in a deeply religious, conservative household, though had already drifted away from religion long before she was allowed to stop going to services, and spent several years studying other’s beliefs before realizing she was an atheist. She left home at 16, and has spent many of the years between then and now wandering around mostly of the south in the United States, often homeless or barely making ends meet.
Over 20 years, a brief marriage, and a whole lot of hard lessons later, J.R. relocated to Maine, remaining single much of the time.
Now disabled, J.R. continues to reside in Maine when she lives with her best friend, their 2 dogs, and a very entitled cat. She also has 4 small gardens where she grows a variety of flowering plants, flowers, herbs, and produce when she’s able.
J.R. has extensive history with violence and trauma. Her life experiences, both against herself and others, has allowed her to see the world from a different angle. Having seen and experienced things we would all agree should not happen, she has the ability to understand and express to others what living with it is like. It has also given her the opportunity to help others in similar positions, in whatever form is necessary and available at the time.
J.R. uses her writing to bring awareness to violence, mental health, and other issues and attempts to show the true impact on victims and the aftereffects on their lives. Other concerns, such as poverty, racial inequality, and environment are additional topics she tries to address to encourage changes in the way we think about and treat each other and the world around us.
Her philosophy is that each of us are capable of helping another person. Each of us interacts with at least 1 person every day that has been traumatized or is being traumatized. Each of us has the ability to make their lives a little better, a little brighter, perhaps even provide them a much needed spark of hope. Be the hero you admire. You can be someone’s lifeline, someone’s savior, the light of hope they need to hang on.
